Jesus said to his disciples: I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing! (Luke 12:49-53)
Wow! We don’t see this side of Jesus very often! It is raw and full of emotion, with a real sense of urgency.
Jesus wants us to hear this Gospel message with the same sense of urgency. We have become complacent in our faith. We go through the motions, checking off minimum requirements as “good enough.” Our focus is diverted away from the work to which God has called us, and re-directed toward worldly things.
We roll the dice on when Jesus might come – there’s always time to set things straight later, right? We have every intention of working on our faith life, but stuff always seems to get in the way. We’re busy, so we’ll get around to it tomorrow. Jesus reminds us that the time is now.
Make your ongoing faith formation a priority. Nothing is more important.
Be the cause of the fire…don’t just be consumed by it while standing idly by.
