Would You Rather Pet a Puppy or Know Jesus?

May 6, 2015

Random thoughts while preparing the homily for tomorrow’s school Mass…

Happiness is fleeting, temporary. It comes and goes. Many things can make us happy – petting a puppy, enjoying a favorite meal, listening to music, or receiving good news. We are happy, but the happiness eventually fades. It is also possible that it will take more to make us happy the next time – petting a puppy while he licks your hand, enjoying your favorite meal with dessert, listening to live music, or receiving even better news. The threshold for happiness is raised.

Joy resides in our heart and and can be accessed at any time. Joy comes from knowing Jesus and accepting His offer of unconditional love. It is ours for the taking.

Now I just need to figure out how to get 700 teenagers to understand this…
