“Nevertheless, do not rejoice because the spirits are subject to you,
but rejoice because your names are written in heaven.” (Luke 10:17-24)
In today’s Gospel, Jesus is responding to the excitement coming from his disciples. They returned to Him with tales of driving out demons and curing the sick in His name.
It would be a similar message that He would give to us. The joy in doing God’s work does not come from fact that you have the skills and ability to do His work, but from doing the work with a servant’s heart.
When we do His work to experience the thrill of power or a rush of adrenaline, we are only focused on the here and now. When our only concern is how others will benefit from our efforts, we are focused on eternity.
