Set a Place at the Dinner Table for Jesus

February 13, 2016

The Pharisees and their scribes complained to his disciples, saying,
“Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”
Jesus said to them in reply,
“Those who are healthy do not need a physician, but the sick do.
I have not come to call the righteous to repentance but sinners.” (Luke 5: 27-32)

I am not a tax collector, but I know that I am a sinner. I try not to allow this knowledge to make me feel unworthy to “eat and drink” with Jesus. We should not allow our sinfulness to leave us feeling isolated and afraid.

We must go to confession, and reach for help.We are not alone; God hears us.

We are all sinners; but if we try our best to live the Gospel message, if we take time for prayer while loving and serving others, then we are worthy of welcoming Jesus into our lives.

As Jesus said, His sole purpose of His time on earth was to make that point known.
