We participated in our annual school staff retreat yesterday. The focus of the retreat was on the theme for our school year: Be Still and Know that I am God (Psalm 46:11)
We explored the direct correlation between our relationship with God and our interactions with others.
When we slow down long enough to spend time with God, when we allow Him into our lives, we enhance our relationship with Him.
That enhanced relationship leads to a more finely tuned sense of self-awareness. In other words, knowing Him better allows us to know ourselves better.
Finally, when we grow our relationship with God and become more self-aware, we are also better able to understand and appreciate the gifts and beauty in others.
This cycle speaks to the “most important commandments” as offered by Jesus: “Love God with all your heart, and love others as yourself.”
