“Nothing will be impossible with God”

“…nothing will be impossible for God.” Luke 1:37

At a Communion service yesterday, I reflected on the response of the eventual parents of Samson and John the Baptist when an angel told them they were to have a child at their advanced ages.

In both cases, the initial response was, “How is this possible?”

In today’s gospel, the angel Gabriel is back at work, this time informing Mary that she is to be the birth mother of the Son of God. She, too, responded, “How can this be?”

We think and respond as human beings. We place limitations on what will happen or what we are capable of because we don’t operate with the mind of God.

The angel Gabriel answers the question for all of us – “…nothing will be impossible for God.”

We need to keep this in mind as we face life’s struggles – health issues, concern for loved ones, financial strains, depression and addiction, and on and on. We are overwhelmed with the thought of ever seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

We limit our possibilities when we carry the burden alone. We accept the word impossible as the only viable result.

Pray to God. Trust God. Strive to do God’s will. Know that nothing will be impossible for God.
