Join Us in Prayer

July 1, 2019

In my homily yesterday, I invited parishioners to join my wife and I in praying the Rosary for all those impacted by the recent school decisions made in the Archdiocese, as well as for anyone that is struggling with his or her relationship with the Church.

We met in the Church in the afternoon and prayed the Rosary in front of the exposed Blessed Sacrament. I was encouraged by the response; we had a nice crowd with us.

Rather than reflecting on any of the Mysteries, we instead offered specific prayers for all of the parties involved, as well as for the universal Church:

*We pray this first decade of the Rosary for Archbishop Thompson. The Archbishop has the daunting task of shepherding over 230,000 Catholics in central and southern Indiana. We pray for his perseverance and fortitude. We pray that he is blessed with the gift of the Holy Spirit. Heavenly Father, please give Archbishop Thompson and the leadership of the Office of Catholic Schools the wisdom to make decisions with integrity, compassion, and love. For this we pray, Amen.

*We pray the second decade for Brebeuf, Cathedral, and Roncalli. We pray that healing may take place. May they be blessed with a spirit of cooperation and feel the support of their broader community. Good and gracious God, please watch over these school communities. Allow them to feel your loving presence within the walls of their school. Give them, especially the students of these schools, the gift of patience and understanding. For this we pray, Amen.

*We pray the third decade for the men and women in Catholic schools that have lost their jobs. We pray for their healing. We pray for their family and friends, and the students they served. We pray for all that were impacted by the decision that led to the loss of their jobs. Loving Father, in this difficult time, be with these men and women. Allow them to feel your love and the love of the Catholic community. Bring them healing and resolution. For this we pray, Amen.

*We pray the fourth decade of the Rosary for all people that feel alienated from the Church, anyone that feels unwelcome, unloved, or disconnected. We pray for members of the LGBTQ+ community that may feel targeted by decisions made by church leaders, all that have been abused by clergy, for young people searching for understanding, and for fallen away Catholics that have had a negative experience with the Church. Dear Jesus, lover of all, bring comfort and peace to the unsettled people of the Church. Allow them to feel your love and the love and unreserved welcome of the entire Body of Christ. For this we pray, Amen.

*We pray this final decade for the Holy Father, Pope Francis, and the entire Catholic Church. Loving God, during these times of continual conflict and ongoing strife, bring a sense of peace. Allow our hearts to be filled with the joy of knowing your love. May we receive our neighbor with open arms and a loving spirit. Allow us to put aside our differences and focus on what brings us together. Give us the gift of your grace. May we glorify you an all we do. For this we pray, Amen.

If you have 15-20 minutes some time this week, please consider praying the Rosary using these prayers. God bless you!
