“I have made you a light to the Gentiles, that you may be an instrument of salvation to the ends of the earth.” The Gentiles were delighted when they heard this and glorified the word of the Lord. (Acts 13:44-52)
It is our responsibility as disciples of Jesus Christ to share the Gospel in both word and deed. Our responsibility to share extends to everyone we meet, not just with those with whom we are comfortable or those who are readily open to the Word of God. It includes strangers, the uninformed (present day Gentiles), and the disenfranchised. It includes those who willingly listen and accept God’s Word, and those who turn away from it.
Just as the Apostles discovered, some will reject our efforts. Those with closed minds and hearts will ignore us. We will discover others who are open, or at least curious. They will listen. Some have simply been waiting for an invitation. There is nothing more effective then a personal, face-to-face invitation.
There will be times when no one hears the message we are offering. Other times, many may respond to our invitation. Regardless of the success of our efforts, we are doing God’s work when we live out the Gospel.
