February 7, 2021 – Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time
On leaving the synagogue, Jesus entered the house of Simon and Andrew with James and John. Simon’s mother-in-law lay sick with a fever. They immediately told him about her. He approached, grasped her hand, and helped her up. Then the fever left her and she waited on them. (Mark 1:29-39)
Entering into the house, Jesus saw that Simon Peter’s mother-in-law was in bed with the fever. Immediately, He took her by the hand, healed her, and raised her up.
After the sun set, the people went and brought others who were sick to Him. He healed many people suffering in a variety of ways: physical, psychological, and spiritual.
Jesus showed compassion for those in need of healing – not only the physically sick, but also sinners, the poor, the afflicted, and the marginalized.
He still does – Jesus saves, Jesus cures, Jesus heals.
