Each day during Lent, I am highlighting a Lenten Word (or phrase) of the Day from the readings of the day. I encourage you to reflect on this word or phrase and incorporate it in your prayers today.
“However, take care and be earnestly on your guard not to forget the things which your own eyes have seen, nor let them slip from your memory as long as you live, but teach them to your children and to your children’s children.”
TEACH YOUR CHILDREN: We have an obligation to do our best to pass on the faith to our children. It can be challenging and exhausting. Making it even more challenging is the fact that if our efforts do pay off, that pay off will not likely be immediate – leaving us with doubt and anxiety. Could we have done more?
We can drive ourselves crazy if we fixate on whether or not our children will “get it.”
We need to be intentional in living out our faith. We share our faith in our words and by our actions – we are witnesses to our faith. We must be walking billboards of what we believe.
If we do that, if we do our best with intentionality, we can put our trust in God to do the rest.
