About Deacon Rick

Deacon Rick Wagner was ordained on June 23, 2012 and currently serves his home parish of St. Pius X in Indianapolis, IN. He has been married to his wife, Carol, for 38 years and they have 4 children and 9 grandchildren.

In addition to his duties at the parish, he also serves on the Board of Directors for Helping Our Own People (HOOP), an organization serving the homeless population near downtown Indianapolis.

Deacon Rick was a teacher and coach at Bishop Chatard High School and then Brebeuf Jesuit, both in Indianapolis. He returned to Bishop Chatard where he served as Athletic Director from 1997-2004. He left that ministry to assume the position of Executive Director of Our Lady of Fatima Retreat House in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis for nearly four years.

From there, Deacon Rick served six years as Principal of St. Theodore Guerin High School in Noblesville, IN, before returning to Bishop Chatard once again in 2013 as Vice President for Mission and Ministry.

He was the Director of the Permanent Deacon Formation Program for St. Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology from 2018-2021.

Currently, Deacon Rick serves as President of St. Theodore Guerin High School.

He is also an author! His first book, Remember What’s Important, was published in July 2011. His second book, Fifty Homilies from the Deacon’s Desk, was published in September 2016.
